Mrs. John Eddy

Aug. 3 -- Mrs. John Eddy, a long time resident of this neighborhood, passed away at her home Saturday morning of last week, after a lingering illness of several months.
While her death was not unexpected, it has brought sadness to this whole community, where she has resided for so many years.
Mrs. Eddy was a kind neighbor and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Her funeral was conducted at the home Monday afternoon, Aug. 1, by her pastor, Rev. Trimble, and was attended by a host of relatives and friends. Friends extend sympathy to the family in this, their time of sorrow.

This community was saddened last Saturday morning at the passing of Mrs. E.R. McCann's mother, Mrs. John Eddy of Hakes Locality. Mrs. Eddy will be greatly missed in the home and community. She was a woman devoted to her family and home. Loving service for others was the keynote of her Christian life.
On the late afternoon of Aug. 1st a large concourse of relatives, neighbors and friends assembled at the Eddy home to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. Mrs. Margaret Woods and Mrs. Thayer sang two numbers, "At the End of the Road" and "Sweet Bye and Bye." Rev. Trimble of the Centerville Christian church, Mrs. Eddy's pastor, conducted the funeral service and paid tribute to her Christian life and showing how it found expression in her kindly thoughts and deeds for others.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family.
She was adopted by Dr. and Mrs. Hakes. She continued to live at the family home after the deaths of the Hakes, and until the time of her death.
On November 6th, 1889, she united in marriage with John T. Eddy. to this union seven children were born, six of whom survive her passing: Mrs. Russ McCann, Mrs. Roy Houser and Mrs. Ralph Fridley, Jr., all of Centerville, and three sons, Frank, Ralph of near Centerville, and Harry at home. One son, George, preceded her in death at the age of 15 years. She is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Kathryn Prugh of Corydon, Iowa; Mrs. James Throllfell of San Bernardino, Calif., and George Maloney of Centerville. Two brothers and one sister preceded Mrs. Eddy in death. She is also survived by six grandsons; john McCann, Roy Houser, Jr., James Eddy, Johnny Eddy, George Eddy, and Richard Fridley.
Mrs. Eddy became a Christian early in life, uniting with the Wesley Chapel church, and later transferring her membership to the Central Church of Christ. She was a member of the Loyal Women's Class and Women's Missionary Society. She was a woman of fine Christian grace and Character. All who knew her respected and loved her for her many good qualities. She was a loyal and devoted companion and a loving mother, and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. John Eddy (Pheobe Ann Maloney) was born at Hamilton, Ill. Jan. 5, 1865, and departed this life at her home near Centerville, Iowa at 7:15 A.M., July 30, 1938, at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 25 days. At the age of five years she moved to Appanoose country, Iowa, with her parents. When she was ten years old, she went to live with Dr. and Mrs. Hakes.
